Synergetic Roles of Mangrove Vegetation on Sediment Accretion in Coastal Mangrove Plantations in Central Thailand

چکیده
Mangrove plantations can potentially restore the vegetation structures protecting coastal areas. In Avicennia alba in central Thailand, we investigated (trees, seedlings, pneumatophores, and belowground roots), sedimentation rates, elevation changes over one year across shore. The results showed a heterogeneous structure with an increasing tree basal area (BA) seedling density towards interior. pneumatophore quantitative characteristics decreased interior association topographic gradient inundation period. which were greater plantation than on mudflat, negative correlation height, total surface area, volume of pneumatophores. This indicates that pneumatophores facilitated transportation fine sediments into Our suggest optimal complexity aboveground might enhance rates. According to BA density, root increased monthly less fluctuation those mudflat. net indicated sediment accretion within erosion demonstrate synergetic roles mangrove facilitate redeposition roots stabilize

Coastal mangrove forests mitigated tsunami
A study conducted after the 26th of December 2004 tsunami in 18 coastal hamlets along the south-east coast of India reiterates the importance of coastal mangrove vegetations and location characteristics of human inhabitation to protect lives and wealth from the fury of tsunami. The tsunami caused human death and loss of wealth and these decreased with the area of coastal vegetation, distance an...

Many of the mangrove forests are characterized by macroalgae growing epiphytically on pneumatophores, prop roots, stems and other hard substrates. Mangrove macroalgae have an important role as primary producers in the estuarine ecosystem. In the present study, four different mangrove habitats were selected to identify the macroalgae inhabiting the roots of a mangrove species Avicennia marina in...

متن کاملMangrove succession enriches the sediment microbial community in South China
Sediment microorganisms help create and maintain mangrove ecosystems. Although the changes in vegetation during mangrove forest succession have been well studied, the changes in the sediment microbial community during mangrove succession are poorly understood. To investigate the changes in the sediment microbial community during succession of mangroves at Zhanjiang, South China, we used phospho...
